The newest acquisition at the Gift Shop at the Sullivan County Historical Society is David Gold’s latest book, Judge Cooke. David Gold is a South Fallsburg native who has an interest as well as a PhD in History. Judge Lawrence Cooke was the former Chief Judge of New York State and a lifelong resident of Monticello, NY. The book takes a look at Judge Cooke as a person as well as a respected jurist.
The Sullivan County Historical Society at the Sullivan County Museum in Hurleyville has an entire room devoted to Judge Lawrence Cooke available for the public to visit.
The book is available for purchase in the Gift Shop for $12 or by mail $12 plus $3 s/h.

An excellent source of information about people From Sullivan County is a high school year book. This past year, the Sullivan County Historical Society has been fortunate to receive two yearbook collections. Allan Wolkoff, historian for the Town of Thompson, donated his collection of Monticello high School yearbooks and the Callicoon Library donated their duplicate copies of the Delaware Valley High School yearbooks.
At this time, the SCHS would like to fill in the gaps of our yearbook collections. We are need of the following:
A new permanent exhibit “The Military Room” is opening at the Sullivan County Museum in Hurleyville on Saturday, November 19th from 2:00 p.m - 4:00 p.m. Uniforms from the Civil War through Desert Storm are representative of some of those who served proudly from Sullivan County. Memorabilia is also on display with items from the Civil War through post WW II. A round table is available for those who wish to participate beginning at 2:30 p.m. Refreshments.

A current exhibit at the Sullivan County Historical Society is “A History of Sullivan County Farms” created by SCHS board member and volunteer, Fred Fries. The exhibits contain many farm artifacts and pictures donated by Fred. The background barn siding wall is even from a building on his property. Many of the pictures are from the Livingston Manor – Shandelee parts of Sullivan County.
